Ask Your Doctor About "Water"

Here is another video that addresses some real issues with humor. This satirical commercial by National Lampoon makes fun of prescription drug ads on TV in the US, while touching on the problem of prescription drugs in our drinking water.

Now that our rivers, lakes and streams are full of prescription drugs, ask your doctor about "water"!

Water may not be right for everybody, and individual results may vary.

Water has not been approved by the FDA.

I did a little research on the recent articles of contaminated water.

It turns out that they are finding these drugs at a rate of 5 ppm. Now, one ppm would be approximately one drop for every 13.2 - 13.4 gallons. So at 5 ppm it's one drop of pure pharmaceuticals for approximately 2.66 gals of water.

'They' are saying that this is the result of these drugs being excreted by the people who take them. That got me thinking. If it's possible that the rates are that high then a large percentage of the water that comes out of the tap has to be wastewater (shower, sink, toilet etc.) when you consider that many don't take these drugs and the ones that do have them thoroughly diluted by toilet water.

Either that, or someone is putting these drugs in the water.

Hi,

You are right that a certain percentage of the water that comes into our homes is actually recycled from waste water, which is why it goes through a waste treatment process.

According to the BBC, 80% of rivers, lakes and streams have been found to contain prescription drugs, and the wildlife are being harmed (for example, male fish are developing female genitalia).

So the drugs in our tap water are coming from wild sources too, which got it from the waste water that doesn't go back into the tap.

I appreciate your calculation because it puts it in perspective. This can't continue because otherwise it will be even more out of hand in a number of years.

I haven't found any evidence yet that the drugs are being put in the water purposely, however fluoride is a dangerous drug that is purposely added to tap water, so no one can say it's not possible.

Thanks for your comment,

Olivia
